Proud to present DJ History podcast DJH014 – this is my episode. Listen back on Mixcloud now.
It is my greatest honour to receive the DJ Mag Top 100 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. I accepted this award on behalf of Manchester – it’s such a rare occasion when anything like this is awarded North of Watford plus I have a sneaking suspicion that I am the first woman (black woman) to win it which makes it even more special and historic. This is also to prove that you don’t have to be an Instagram influencer with millions of followers to make your mark. If you can make a difference, be fearless and make a difference. This is also for anyone who gets knocked down nine times and stands up ten. I see you. And so do they.
I join three fabulous humans for this feature that was published in The Guardian Culture on Thursday July 21st, 2022. PDF courtesy of The Guardian with thanks to Nicholas Pritchard.
Massive thanks to Sekeenat Karim Lissi Simpson and HOME Mcr for this beautiful film ‘Black Creatives: In Conversation’ in celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth2021 – short watch 15 minutes. Subscribe to Home’s channel on YouTube. Trigger warning – discusses trauma and sexual assault.

Next stop on the HEAR HEAR journey around the world for International Women’s month (because a day is nowhere near enough time to show all the women who influence and inspire us some love) is Manchester. In Episode 4 I celebrate the Divine Feminine version 2.0.2.1 with a true Manchester legend, celebrity, singer, Manchester United fan, dog lover and my HEAR HEAR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH ICON – ROWETTA (MCR, UK). She’s a Proper Mancunian with a heart of gold and I’m honoured to have gained an audience with this absolute Queen.
In celebration of the Divine Feminine and for International Women’s Month version 2.0.2.1. She’s a New Yorker from Detroit and she has a lot of tea to spill.
I invited the powerhouse Heléna Star (Foundation FM) to do a guest mix and an interview to close out 2020’s isolation shows with a flourish.

Over three beautiful days in August, the battle cry was ‘don’t let the virus get you down’ as We Out Here Festival and Reform Radio showed everybody how it’s done, provided the online, underground contrast, powerful political platform and the shining stage for talks, djs, artists and screenings for all that’s good from Manchester to London and around the world too.
Remember how the summer passed in the blink of an eye? At least we had the We Out Here festival to soundtrack the end of the month with music, talks and live jams from all over the world.
DJ Magazine celebrates it’s first, new print copy with ‘Dance Music Is Black Music’ an issue with a 33 page cover section that sets out their pledge dedicated to fighting racism within their organisation and throughout the dance music industry and to more fully and fairly exploring the black experience across the spectrum of the music industry. ANZ and I have an isolation conversation about our experiences across the generations.

On the 28th of April – a friend of mine (Facebook pseudo Candy Mac Crevure) messaged me to say that she had suggested me as a guest on Joachim Garraud’s daily show online. That same day I received an email from Joachim himself to set the date. Here is the result. Interview is 90% in (really rusty / bad) french – no subtitles, but you can still look at the pictures if you don’t understand 😀
