Sweltering in the current heat, I remembered Spike Lee’s ‘Do The Right Thing’ and thought ‘why not share some of my favourite black music from movie soundtracks for my show on Worldwide FM?’. So this is what I’ve done.

Happy New Year and Welcome to the first Accaliberation of 2021. Since National Lockdown has been recommissioned for series 3, this month’s story time focuses on the theme of ’Never Alone’. I call on some soulful sages and wise wordsmiths from Soulclap, The Beatles, James Brown, Fame Gospel Choir, Marco Faraone, Bobbi Humphrey, Patrice Rushen, Brainstorm, Blaze and many more to channel a message of how we can make our way through this lockdown and the pandemic with dignity, a smile and a sweaty body. It’s a soul, funk, disco, house genre-hopper and tells an isolation story like only music and lyrics can.
Here’s my Christmas-ish (and birthday-ish) show for Accaliberation. I’ve popped some random thoughts about 2020 and my hopes for 2021 into a blender to make a fun, super smoothie. Everyone from The Avalanches, Clarence Carter, J Boogie, Donny Hathaway provide a tangential perspective on my isolation Christmas.
