As soon as I was old enough I got a paper round at Dillon’s on Meldon Road. This playlist features a lot of the music that I bought with hard-earned, dog chased, rained on paper round money. When I studied for my A’Levels at Xaverian some of my student grant funded my vinyl habit (the rest of it funded my clubbing habit and a few books). When I worked for CWS & Broughton Jacques I could afford to buy everything I wanted at HMV, Virgin & Our Price and the second hand stalls in the Corn Exchange. Oh and working in the record library at Piccadilly Radio 261 had its very occasional perks too.
HOMEBIRD 1976 – 1986 features music from Human League, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Grace Jones, The Eurythmics, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Prince, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, Madonna, Marlena Shaw, Sade, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears, U2, ZZ Top, Mariah Carey and many more – one can safely say that it was an explosive time for music.
