I write poems, lyrics and songs. In poems my preferred format is haiku (yeah yeah short, yeah yeah lazy whatever) but I was moved to write a longer piece for a spoken word performance in a large group when I had a presentation for a job (which I eventually never used but I got the job and I will tell you about it in another post soon). This is my newest baby – it’s called ‘I Am The One’ and I am super proud of it.
The poem was written for age group 15-18 but is relevant to us all. Its intention is to set people on a path to self mastery by accepting every facet of self, to draw the talents out and find expression in and about situations that would previously have left them speechless. I am saying that it’s ok to be who and whatever you are, acceptance is the first step to change and betterment.
I’ve illustrated it with the Jackie Moore track because it echoes some of the sentiments.
Feel free to leave a comment but keep it constructive, kind and clean please. Enjoy.
I AM THE ONE
I am the one
Who thinks
Who feels
Who listens
Who sees
Who talks too much
Who is silent
Who moves too fast
Who seems violent
I am the one
Who works
Who plays
Who stays
Who strays
Who cries
Who tries
Who doesn’t give a …
Who doesn’t give up
I am the one
Who reads
Who feeds
Who needs
Who seeds
Who runs
Who stuns
Who blossoms and grows
Who plants and sows
I am the one
Who helps
Who hurts
Who grieves
Who thrives
High fives
Who lives
Who is lost and found
Who turns it around
I am the one
Who relates
Meditates
Who teaches
Who reaches
Who is kind
Who is mindful
Who is peaceful and calm
Who’s Thoughtful and zen
I AM THE ONE
I AM EVERY ONE
THIS IS FOR THE ONE
THIS IS FOR EVERYONE
